In memory of Don - 1935 - 2023

Don was a loving and supportive husband, father, uncle and friend. Born in Chesterfield in 1935, where he met his wife, Pauline, Don went to Cambridge University to study Chemical Engineering and lived in London and America before settling in Birmingham where he and Pauline had their daughter Jackie.

In his youth, Don was a keen cyclist, but also enjoyed playing tennis and swimming. In his later life, Don's hobby's were more sedate and he enjoyed coffee at Hoopers with Pauline, playing bridge and dabbling in his shares. He even discovered he was a bit of a poet!

Don enjoyed his career, first as a Chemical Engineer and then a Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, but took early retirement in 1988 so that he could move his family down to Torquay where he had holidayed as a child and had been a favourite destination for his own family (amongst other exciting trips such as Majorca, Spain and America). Don enjoyed the many visits from friends back in Birmingham but also from the friends he made through Bridge whilst living in Torquay.

Sadly Don’s health suffered during his adult life and living by the sea didn’t bring the healthier lifestyle he had maybe hoped for. But Don never complained – just took the pills and carried on! When Pauline was taken very ill with Sepsis last year, Don visited her with Jackie almost every day of the 5 months she was in hospital but was pleased to have her home with him during the past few months.

Don, Dad, Uncle, Friend... you will be missed.
